Privacy Policy

Effective for Kam 1.0.0. Last reviewed 2026-09-27.

This page describes what the current Kam mobile app does.

Who we are

Kam helps you search products, read a Product Report, see a Kam Score when one is published, and get a Your Score from information you enter on the device.

What Kam stores on your device

Kam stores the following locally on your phone or tablet. This data is not synced to a Kam cloud account in this version:

Owner feedback, including any review you write, stays on your device. Kam does not upload it.

Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes this on-device information. Kam does not currently offer a separate cloud account deletion flow because there is no Kam cloud Saved or Owned sync.

What Kam sends over the network

When you search or open a Product Report, Kam may send product search text and related lookup requests to Kam's backend (hosted on Supabase) so the app can return catalog matches and current retailer offers. Kam may also record that a catalog Product Report was opened (the product's public identifier only) so it can rank popular products. That record is not tied to a Kam account.

Kam may open an external retailer site when you choose View deal, or an official manufacturer product or preorder page when you choose an official manufacturer action (for example Pre-order from Apple or View on Sony). Those sites have their own privacy practices. Kam does not control what they collect after you leave the app.

If a retailer offer uses an affiliate link, Kam may open that link instead of a plain retailer URL. Official manufacturer links are not chosen because a retailer pays commission. Commission does not change Kam Score or Your Score.

If you use Paste a Link, Kam checks the URL, strips common tracking parameters while keeping the part of the link that identifies the product, ignores addresses that are not public websites, and may request the public page for title and product details. Requesting that page means the URL is transmitted to that website. Kam does not send the raw URL to analytics and does not keep a paste history. A retailer listing is not treated as Kam identity, a Kam Score, Saved, or Owned. Each successful Paste a Link use counts toward a limit of 2 per 24 hours. That limit is stored on your device and is separate from Kam It.

Search dictation

If you use the Search microphone, Kam asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission. Recognition uses the device platform speech service (Apple Speech on iOS, Android SpeechRecognizer / Google speech services on Android). Kam does not send that audio to Kam's backend and does not keep a voice recording or transcript history. The recognized text becomes ordinary Search input on the device. If you then run Search, that text is handled like any other search query.

Kam cannot promise that Apple or Google process speech only on-device. Platform speech services may process audio off-device according to their own practices.

Kam It photos

If you use Kam It, you may take a photo or choose one from your library. Photos are processed to identify visible product clues. Kam resizes and compresses the image on your device, then sends temporary image bytes to Kam's backend so a vision provider can extract those clues. Kam matches clues against its catalog. Identification does not mark a product Owned or Saved and does not create a Kam Score or Your Score.

Kam does not keep a photo history. After analysis, the app discards the image from the device. The Kam backend function does not write photos to Kam storage. Kam cannot promise that the vision provider deletes the image immediately. Photos are not used to train a Kam model.

Each successful Kam It use counts toward a limit of 2 per 24 hours. That limit is stored on your device and is separate from Paste a Link.

Kam+

Kam is free. Optional Kam+ is a subscription through Apple or Google via RevenueCat. RevenueCat may process purchase receipts and an anonymous store identity. There is no Kam cloud account. Restore follows your store account. Search, Product Report, Kam Score, Your Score, Saved, Owned, Where to Buy, and Compare stay free. Kam It and Paste a Link each include 2 successful uses per 24 hours. Kam+ removes those limits. The limits are separate and stored on your device.

App reliability and limited usage analytics

Kam uses Sentry so we can tell whether the app is opening, whether main features succeed or fail, and whether the app crashed. That includes crash and error reports and a small set of product events (for example, that a search finished or that a purchase was cancelled).

Kam configures this so it does not send the text of your search, a pasted product link, photos, dictated audio or transcripts, owner-review notes, purchase receipts, or the details of your Your Score answers.

Sentry may still receive technical details needed to diagnose problems, such as app version, device type, and operating system, and it may assign an installation identifier. Kam does not use this for advertising and does not create a Kam account from it. Kam has turned on Sentry's data scrubbing and has asked Sentry not to store IP addresses. Sentry may still see an IP address when a report is received; Kam does not use IP addresses as location. How long Sentry keeps reports depends on Sentry's account settings and is not stated as a fixed number here.
